Remarks by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Manpreet Anand at the LBJ School

Sep 16, 2016

During his lecture, DAS Anand drew parallels between current US-India relations and President Johnson’s quick action to address a food shortage crisis in India 50 years ago. DAS Anand recounted, “when President Johnson heard the news, he said that India’s food problem ‘ought to be attacked as if we are at war.'” He reasoned “the stakes today are high, just as they were for LBJ 50 years ago. The decisions the United States makes, the partnerships we build, and the strength of our commitment to the region, will have profound consequences that will resonate for many decades into the future.”
