Student Spotlight: Sparkle Dennis interns at the U.S. Consulate in Bucharest

Aug 13, 2019

The Clements Center's Student Professional Development Fund provides UT undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to intern at some of the top governmental and non-governmental organizations across the world by providing monetary support for unpaid positions.

This summer Sparkle is interning with the Department of State at the U.S. embassy in Bucharest, Romania. Sparkle works in the Consular Section where she assists with the processing of non immigrant and immigrant visas for Romanian citizens. She also aides with robust fraud prevention and has visited incarcerated U.S. citizens to ensure their well being and that their human rights are being respected. In order to receive a full understanding of diplomatic work, she has sought out additional opportunities and responsibilities with other sections of the U.S. Embassy. For example, she presented to a group of Romanian high school students on education in the U.S. through the Public Diplomacy section. The highlight of her summer was the unique opportunity to assist with and attend the EU-US ministerial meetings that included the AG William Barr, various Romanian Ministers, and the EU.
