“The Rise and Fall of Detente” Conference Recap and Photos

Using the papers of William P. Clements Jr. and newly released volumes of the Foreign Relations of the United States (FRUS) series, scholars explored topics ranging from “Energy Dependency and U.S. Foreign Policy” and “Human Rights and the Reomoralization of Foreign Policy” to “Crises on the Periphery” and “Arms Control and Weapons Technology.” The Conference was cohosted by both the Clements Center for National Security and the Office of the Historian at the U.S. State Department.

Several members of the UT-Austin community took part in the Conference, including Professors Bobby Inman, William Inboden, Paul D. Miller, Mark Lawrence, Bartholomew Sparrow, and Jeremi Suri, as well as UT History PhD Joseph Parrott and UT History PhD Candidate Megan Reiss. The Plenary Lunch was keynoted by The Honorable Tom Reed, Former Secretary of the Air Force.
