Max von Bargen

Max von Bargen was a 2020–2021 Postdoctoral Fellow at the Clements Center for National Security at the University of Texas at Austin. Max earned his Ph.D. in History at The Ohio State University in May 2020, where his research focused on strategy, grand strategy, and alliance politics. His current book manuscript examines how British and American grand strategy interacted with alliance politics in the British-American “Special Relationship” from 1981 to 1991. He is a recipient of grants from the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, the Mershon Center for International Studies, and the Scowcroft Center for International Affairs.

Before coming to The Ohio State, he worked for Giant Oak, Inc. as a contractor for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), where he assisted in the development of advanced data analysis software. He holds a B.S. in Management Science & Engineering from Stanford University and an M.A. with honors in Security Studies from Georgetown University.
