Alexandra “Mike” Vermooten is the Program Coordinator at the Clements Center for National Security. Prior to joining the Clements Center, Alexandra worked as a Development Associate and Political Intern at Annie’s List in Austin, Texas. She is a former Clements Center Undergraduate Fellow and participant in the “U.S., U.K., and World Order” Maymester program at King’s College London. She has previously interned for the U.S. Department of State with the Secretary’s Policy Planning Staff in 2016 and the Bureau for Arms, Control, Verification, and Compliance in 2017. Before moving to Austin, she completed her Associate’s Degree with honors at Lone Star College-Montgomery, where she served on the president’s Civic Engagement Committee. Other experience includes her time as a student intern for the Office of State Senator Sylvia R. Garcia, where she assisted with constituent casework in downtown Houston. Her academic background and research interests include women’s political empowerment, conflict stabilization, civic leadership, and refugee relief efforts. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Government and completed the Clements Center’s International Security Studies Certificate in its inaugural class.
