Clements Funding Recipient Dan Hamilton tells us about his internship at Senator Cornyn’s office

This summer, the Center funded thirteen students and here is Dan Hamilton’s story:

“As a Clements Center Undergraduate Fellow in the fall of 2014 we met with Senator Kelly Ayotte to listened to her speak about international affairs, and domestic issues. Her speech, which ranged in topics, also included her roles personal and responsibilities, all of which sounded challenging and interesting.

“It is ultimately what drove my too apply as an intern in US Senator John Cornyn’s Austin office. My major responsibilities have included interacting with constituents to understand their views on issues such as gun control, immigration, and who they support in the general election. Along with my conversations with constituents, some of the highlights from the events I’ve attended as an intern with Senator Cornyn have been the awarding of APD Sergeant Johnson the Congressional Badge of Bravery, the Service Academy Sendoff (where Senator Cornyn congratulated high school seniors who will be attending service academies in the Fall), and also a celebration of UT’s Dell Medical Center, and the inaugural class of students.

“My primary goals as an intern were to observe and learn how staff and the Senator work together to represent the people of Texas at a federal level, and it has been a wonderful experience. I’m very grateful to Senator John Cornyn and his staff for teaching me personally and professionally how to lead and serve the people of the great state of Texas at the federal level.”

As a student at UT-Austin, Dan studies Government and co-founded the Student Veteran Association. He was a 2014-2015 Clements Center Undergraduate Fellow and studied abroad at King’s College London as part of our Maymester program.
